Boating Lake circuits

Summer evenings on Southampton Common are idyllic, especially when the swans are swimming majestically on the calm water of the Boating Lake. Tonight, when the Hamwic Harriers turned up though, the swans must have wondered what on earth was going on?

It started relatively sedately with some balance exercises and stretches. Balance exercises and stretches are great for building core strength and stability. Running is, after all, a series of one footed balancing acts whilst negotiating all the obstacles on the route. Core strength and good balance can make you a more efficient runner and can prevent injuries. The swans barely gave the odd looking humans a glance at this stage.

When said humans all began running round and round the Boating Lake though, they must have wondered what an earth was going on. Round and round the humans went, quite literally flying though the air almost as gracefully as a swan does but, luckily, without the ungainly splash landing. There really were some most spectacular flying feet on show. Whether this was down to all the balancing and stretching beforehand remains to be seen but it certainly didn’t hurt
